If University Place has been in the news lately, chances are good that it's because of Chambers Bay Golf Course. TheMore facility, which is owned by Pierce County as part of its Chambers Creek Properties site, hosted the 2010 U.S. Amateur golf tournament. In 2015, it will host the U.S. Open, one of professional golf's signature events.

The $20 million course sits on the shores of Puget Sound. Formerly a gravel pit, the course was designed by the renowned Robert Trent Jones II design team. It offers links-style golf, similar to the famous and challenging courses of Scotland and Ireland. It is a walking only.

Green fees range from $49 to $109 for Pierce County residents depending on the season and day of the week; Non-Pierce County residents will pay $69 to $175. Separate caddie fees range from $50 to $100. Players can book in person, over the phone or online.
