The Pierce County Environmental Services Building houses the county's sewer and water utilities, solid waste…More division, public development division, airport and ferry division and a portion of the department's support staff.
The $10 million, 50,000-square-foot building, located on Chambers Creek Properties south of Chambers Bay Golf Course, opened in 2002. It is a designated "green building," which means builders used recycled material wherever possible, and the building is designed to maximize natural light and air circulation.
Visitors will also find remnants of the former gravel pit that existed at the site for decades, including machinery and pieces of gravel. The county has installed markers and kiosks to help explain the building's natural, historic and environmentally friendly features.
In addition, the building can be rented out for private affairs.
