UP City Council Honors Special Olympian, New Cops

As reported earlier by Patch, Ashlee Stine will complete in the Special Olympics Summer Games this year in Greece. Also, University Place Police will have three new faces.

University Place honored four of its finest tonight.

First, as first reported by Patch, Mayor Debbie Klosowski recognized , the Curtis High student and UP native who will compete in the Summer Special Olympic Games in Greece.

The 20-year-old, one of nine Washingtonians headed to the competition, received a standing ovation from Monday's crowd.

She even cracked a few jokes.

"I don't mind doing it again next year," Ashlee said.

The city also recognized three new faces with the University Place Police Department.

First, UP recognized its first police investigator, . Then, it recognized Deputies Adam Pawlak and Ryan Johnson.

Pawlak has been with Pierce County three years, including working the east side of the county. He will replace Shook in his patrol position.

Johnson worked out of the Sheriff Department's warrants unit in Tacoma, as well as working patrol. He is filling a spot that will be vacated because one of UP's officers is moving to work the county's east side.
