Volunteers will literally build the $160,000, 1,200-square-foot playground from the ground up that week, everything from the foundation to its walking bridge. The group says it's looking for people with all levels of building experience, even those who have never picked up a hammer in their lives.

They're looking specifically Β for construction captains, builders and people who can perform non-construction jobs such as serving water and daycare.

Linda Bird, chairwoman of the Playground by the Sound's committee, told Patch that the effort could require 100 volunteers per day. She understands that most volunteers' inclination will be to sign up for the Sept. 24 and Sept. 25 shifts because they're on a weekend, but the biggest need for volunteers will be earlier in the week.

For more information or to volunteer, visit the group's website.

So, it's on you, UP. Patch will be there volunteering, too. Let's make build something special for University Place.
