GET OUT: You Can Eat, Work For A Good Cause This Weekend

Families Unlimited Network is holding a fund-raiser dinner, and you can help clear the Leach Creek property.

University Place Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-with-work, get-me-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new establishments to explore.

  • Where/When: 6 p.m. on Sat, Oct. 22 at .
  • Why Go: Families Unlimited Network helps families tackle everyday challenges, walking families out of crisis and into stability. Come prepared to hear about what they've done in the last 12 months, and learn how you can become involved with the organization. Keynote address will be given by David Zeeck of the News Tribune.
  • Cost: $20 for adults and $5 for youths (all include meal). All Proceeds go to support F.U.N.'s Programs.

  • Where/When: 9 a.m. on Sat, Oct 22 at Leach Creek Park.
  • Why Go: Help make a difference in your community this Saturday. Volunteer’s are needed to help clean up and clear out the newest park property in University Place. Make a Difference Day has been one of our most popular community volunteer work days for the last six years help keep it that way by giving a few hours to your community, to your park.   • Cost: Free. 

 

  • Where/When: 6-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.
  • Why Go: Bring the kids to Northwest Trek this weekend for its annual Hoot 'N Howl celebration. You'll navigate through the park and search for animals in the dark on a special nighttime tram tour. Wear your costumes, play games, win prizes and eat treats during this wild weekend. Remember to bring your cameras!
  • Cost: $11 for non-member adults (ages 13 and up) and $7 for non-member youth (ages 3-12). Children ages 2 and under free. Members get a $2 discount.

 

  • Where/When:  8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday at .
  • Why Go: It's closing weekend for Something Wicked This Way Comes, so get in the Halloween mood this weekend and check out this hauntingly chilling play from Lakewood Playhouse before it's too late. Enjoy the show!
  • Cost: $23 general, $20 senior/military, $15 under 15 years of age.

 

  • Where/When: 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Point Defiance Five Mile Drive in Tacoma.
  • Why Go: The Black Cat 5-Mile Fun Run is a chip timed 5-mile course that winds through scenic Point Defiance Park at dusk. This race will be an experience you won't soon forget; so dress up, and bring the family to cheer you on! Non-runners will find entertainment at the start/finish area with family activities, arts & crafts and spooky storytelling while racers navigate through the spooky Five Mile Drive in Point Defiance.
  • Cost: $25 per person which includes a long sleeved T-shirt and two glowsticks.
