I will not predict the winner of the 2014 Super Bowl as it might shake your faith.

This year's Super Bowl matchup is promising, but will probably disappoint; that's tradition. But it certainly has lots to talk about till game day: the league's best offense takes on the league's best defense (for a final score of 3 to nothing maybe?); the aging but still somehow reliable quarterback Payton Manning squaring off against the up-and-coming (though lately slumping) youngster Russell Wilson; and way more than we need of Seattle's 12th man and whether playing on a neutral field in front of a lot of we're-only-here-to-be-seen fans will give Denver an edge. Plus long-time Broncos and Seahawks fans will also remember that before the Hawks moved to the NFC, Seattle and Denver had one of the most rabid we-hate-you,-we-really-hate-you rivalries in the league during the Elway era. An astute analysis and prediction? Not from me, because I wouldn't want to insult the reported almost 50 percent of Americans who believe the issue will be decided not by strengths, weaknesses, bad calls, referee mistakes, dropped balls, or unexpected game day heroics, but by God or some other higher power. Yes, in a poll, almost half of us believe that some sort of cosmic entity will affect the outcome of the Super Bowl; it's that important I guess. Now, while only 20 percent believe God actually picks the winner, an additional 26 percent believe praying helps their team. That may be because 26 percent also believe their team is currently cursed. So all I have to say to the 50 percent who are busy praying is: OK by me; that leaves more chips and bean dip for the rest of us.Β  ........and that's the way the ball bounces.
