Tyler Jamison (Part 1), Feb. 9

In this entry, the Vikings' quarterback tells us about his options for college, which could likely land him in California. From the start, Tyler's goal is to be a commissioned officer in the Army.

Finally! My first football scholarship offers came.

First was Waldorf (NAIA). Then, a few weeks later, Western New Mexico (D-II). Unfortunately, I can't take them because those schools do not have ROTC programs.

I just got home from my college visits with my mom in California.  Seeing that it's California, the only state with a junior college football league, we decided to chart out some of the schools that were recruiting me down there.  First, I went to College of the Desert, which was in the one of the nicest cities I've ever been in, Palm Desert.  After the coaching staff showed me around, I got to throw with the receivers, who were some of the fastest guys I've ever seen. A few were even faster than !

Next, I went to San Bernardino Valley College, which had a very solid program, but I didn't feel like it was the right fit after being on campus and meeting with the coaches.  The last jc I went to was San Diego Mesa College right next to the beach!  They had a HUGE stadium with a blue track. Out of these three JC's, my favorite was College of the Desert, which told me that I would have a high chance of starting my first year by having an open spot to compete.

Junior college is for players that don't do as well in the classroom to play at a four-year school, have got into trouble, or, like me, didn't get recruited like they thought they should have.  JC's allow guys to continue playing football to earn a scholarship.  You can go for one or two years.  Many NFL players went to a junior college, including Super Bowl champion Aaron Rodgers. If I were to go to a junior college, I would go to the Citadel afterward (I've already been accepted), hopefully under a scholarship after I prove myself at the college level.  This way, at the Citadel, I can still be commissioned as an Army officer in two 0r three years.

Although the junior college route is a good one, I am highly considering going to Azusa Pacific University if the coaching staff likes what they see in my film, stats, and physical tests that I completed when I was down there. I have a lot more to say about my Azusa Pacific visit in part 2 of this entry.

In my next entry, I should release my decision and go in-depth of the school of my choice.  I cannot wait to be on a football team again!

For now, I wait for the Azusa coaching staff to call me on their evaluation decision...
