Sports

Tyler Jamison, March 9

In the installment, the Vikings college-bound quarterback tries his hand at a new sport.

Looks like I have a new sport to write about this spring!

Last Monday was the first day of spring sports. I've been doing track since seventh grade but it has not been improving my speed the last couple years. So, I thought, maybe I should do another sport, like lacrosse or something.

Some of the coaches and players encouraged me to come out and give it a shot. I did, but I wasn't going to skip track my senior year! So I did both the first couple of days...which was extremely hard (don't mention that to Mr. Jenks, please). I'm not sure which sport to choose!

I want to gain weight on my new protein diet (which has been working, since the start I've gained 8 pounds, weighing a true 170) and continue lifting, but Coach Housman said I can't do a spring sport if I truly want to gain weight. So I can't do track, lifting, and lacrosse. I have to make a decision and I didn't know what I was gonna do till Thursday night at lacrosse practice, when we got game jerseys. That was when I knew I was playing, and yes, I got number seven (my football number)! I'm really excited to pick up this new contact sport and be part of a team again. I look forward to every practice because I make large improvements everyday from being so far behind. But my skills are up and coming (passing, shooting, and catching). I'm good at running with the ball, recovering ground balls and hitting people on defense.

This Saturday we have a jamboree, but I will only be able to attend the first game because I have to catch a flight at 5:40 p.m.

I'm flying to this weekend to take a further look at the school and see Kim play water polo. I'll be there for about four days, and we have some fun stuff planned. We hope to go hiking, to the beach, and eat a lot of In-N-Out :)
