Lacy Makes Impressive Official Debut with WSU Basketball Team

2011 Curtis graduate scores 11 points in Cougars' loss at No. 23 Gonzaga.

Curtis graduate DaVonté Lacy's freshman season with the Washington State University men's basketball team is off to a solid start. He scored 11 points in the Cougars' season opening 89-81 loss at No. 23 Gonzaga on Monday night in Spokane.

Lacy, who garnered surprisingly little recruiting attention during a senior season in which he led the Vikings to the , was a key contributor in a contest where Gonzaga freshman Kevin Pangos dominated the court, scoring a game-high 33 points.

In his first official collegiate game, Lacy hit consecutive 3-pointers with just over three minutes left to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 77-73. He converted 4 of 7 shots en route to his 11 points.

"DaVonté did a nice job," said WSU coach Ken Bone in a postgame radio interview. "Without him out there, I don’t think we make it a game down the stretch.”

Lacy scored a game-high 21 points on 7 of 11 shooting in last weekend's 88-41 win against Lewis-Clark State College. That contest was an exhibition game for the Cougars.
