The win earned the defending state champions a Wednesday date with rival Mercer Island, which also won its quarterfinal.

After matching each other goal-for-goal in the first half, Bellevue opened the second half with 10:16 remaining in the third to take a 5 – 4 lead. The Wolverines scored the next two on goals by Andrew Gulrujani and Drew Douglas to take a 7 – 4 lead before Carson Stewart edged Curtis to within two on a solo goal at 4:22.  Douglas notched Bellevue’s eighth goal with just 8:10 remaining to round out third-quarter scoring.  In the fourth, Curtis’s Stewart managed only a solo goal as  the Wolverines went into a controlled offense to close out the game.

Bellevue’s Douglas scored five goals and grabbed five ground balls to lead all scorers and Andrew Matthews grabbed seven ground balls.  For Curtis, Stewart netted 3 goals and Tony Nigh had 20 saves in goal.

The Wolverines dropped Lake Washington 14 – 5 to close out the regular season before dispatching Lake Tapps 17 – 4 in the opening round.

As defending state champions, the Wolverines only have last year’s state runner-up Mercer Island standing in their way as they look for a repeat berth in the state title game, Saturday, May 28 at Memorial Stadium in Seattle.
