Curtis Boys, Girls Lacrosse Teams Earn Wins

The boys team beat Vashon while the girls toppled Evergreen.

The boys and girls lacrosse teams picked up wins Tuesday. Here are the recaps, along with other scores from around the state, courtesy of Washington State Lacrosse:

Curtis downs Vashon in boys lacrosse

VASHON ISLAND – Quinn Moody and Colby Carr each netted 4 goals to give Curtis a 13 – 5 boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Vashon, Tuesday at Vashon High School.  Curtis jumped to an early 4 – 0 lead in the first and extended their margin to 9 – 2 at the half before cruising to the win.  Brandon Dean netted a goal and grabbed 10 ground balls in a stellar defensive effort for Curtis.  Luke Hembree netted 3 goals and Aaron Bomber had 15 saves in the nets for Vashon.  With the win, Curtis advanced to 2-0, while Vashon is winless in 2 starts.  Curtis next faces Seattle Prep at home in an 8 p.m. start on Monday, March 28.  Vashon next travels to Seattle to take on Lakeside at 5 p.m., on Thursday, March 31.

Curtis downs Evergreen 10 – 2 in girls lacrosse

UNIVERSITY PLACE –  Kortney Hudak scored 5 goals and grabbed 6 ground balls to lead Curtis to a 10 – 2 girls Division II high school lacrosse win over Evergreen, Tuesday at Curtis High School.  Sloan Barton added 3 goals and a ground ball and Carina Coppedge-Pope had 6 saves for Curtis, which advanced to 2-1-0 on the season. Sarah Ornelas scored both goals for Evergreen. Evergreen is now winless in 2 starts.  Curtis next travels to Kennedy for a 4:45 p.m. start against the Lancers, Thursday, March 24, while Evergreen sees the Lancers on Saturday, March 26 at Vancouver’s McKenzie Stadium for a 1 p.m. start.

Tacoma downs Oregon’s Hood River in boys lacrosse

UNIVERSITY PLACE – Max Jones scored 3 goals to lead Tacoma to a 12 – 8 boys inter-state lacrosse matchup with Oregon’s Hood River, Tuesday at Cirque-Bridgeport Park.  Jones contributed 3 assists, while Connor McLeod added 2 goals and 2 assists and Connor O’Brien collected 8 ground balls for Tacoma.   Hood River’s Jesse Koepaseuth netted 4 goals and Malcom McCurdy had 15 saves in goal for the Oregon lacrosse club.  Tacoma travels to Lake Tapps next Tuesday, March 29 for an 8 p.m. start at Bonney Lake High School.  Hood River next faces Oregon City at 7:15 p.m,, Tuesday, March 29 at Hood River Valley High School in Oregon.

Mukilteo rebounds to drop Lakeside in boys lacrosse

SEATTLE – Kevin McGowan scored 3 goals and Alex Okemah collected 11 ground balls as Mukilteo rebounded from a 1 goal Lakeside advantage at halftime to down the Lions 10 – 7 in boys inter-divisional high school lacrosse action, Tuesday at the Lakeside Upper School in north Seattle.  Lakeside jumped to an early 2 – 1 lead at  the end of the first quarter and matched Mukilteo’s 2 goals in the second to take the mid-game lead.  At the end of the third both teams were knotted at 6 before Mukilteo broke out with a 4 goal final stanza to seal the victory.  Houston Warren netted 3 goals, Connor Haney delivered 4 assists  and Peter Scott made 13 saves in goal for the Lions. On Thursday, Mukilteo travels to Redmond for a 5 p.m. matchup with Overlake.  Lakeside also sees action on Thursday with a 7 p.m. matchup with Seattle Prep on the Delridge South Playfield in Seattle.

Stadium drops Northshore 7 – 5 boys lacrosse

TACOMA – Drew Ramsey broke a 4 – 4 tie with 7:35 remaining in the third quarter to put Stadium ahead for good in a 7 – 5 boys inter-divisional high school lacrosse win over Northshore, Tuesday at Mason Middle School in Tacoma.  Ramsey scored 2 goals and collected 1 ground ball in the win, while Givanni Natalizio netted 3 goals, Drew Ramsey scored 2 and Seth Oberst and Jordan Jessen each netted solo shots for Stadium. Five players scored for Northshore in the loss.  Northshore next travels to Lake Washington High School for a 7:30 p.m. matchup, Thursday, March 24, while Stadium travels to Bainbridge High School for a 7:30 p.m. matchup on April 6.

Skyline handles Overlake in boys lacrosse

REDMOND – Max Saffle, Jack Pruitt and Ryan McMackin each netted 3 goals to lift Skyline to a 14 – 6 boys Division I high school lacrosse defeat of Overlake, Tuesday at the Overlake School in Redmond.  The Spartans struck early scoring 3 in the first and adding another 4 in the second for a 7 – 1 lead at the intermission before cruising to the win.   Pruitt set the stage for the Spartan offense as he grabbed 10 ground balls and Cory Larson had 12 saves in goal.  With the win, Skyline advance to 2-0-0 on the season, while Overlake is winless in 2 starts.  Skyline next takes on Oregon’s Timberline, in a 5:30 p.m. start Friday, March 25 at Islander Middle School on Mercer Island.  Overlake next faces Mukilteo in a 5 p.m. start, Thursday, March 24 at the Overlake School.

Eastside Catholic downs Prep in boys lacrosse

SAMMAMISH – Colin Macilvennie and Michael Rambaldini each scored 4 goals to lead Eastside Catholic to a 17 – 7 boys Division I high school lacrosse win over rival Seattle Prep, Tuesday at Charlie Acosta Field on the campus of the Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish.   The Crusaders jumped out to a 9 – 2 lead at the half and cruised in the second half to the win.  Colin Schriever had 5 saves in goal for Eastside Catholic which evened their record at 1-1-0 with the win.  For Seattle Prep, Connor Slack scored 3 goals, and Cassidy Miller and Connor Dennehy each had 2 goals.  Jack Maurer had 16 saves in the nets.   With the loss Prep slipped to 1-1-0.  Eastside Catholic next sees action at home with a 7 p.m. start against Mt. Si on Saturday, March 26.  Prep takes on Lakeside, this Thursday, March 24 in a 7 p.m. start at Delridge South Playfield.

Bellevue nets 19 in boys lax win over Puyallup

BELLEVUE – Hank Bethke scored 6 goals and Blake Samuel netted 5 to lead all scorers as Bellevue ran past Puyallup 19 – 1 in boys Division I high school lacrosse action, Tuesday at Bellevue High School.  Bellevue came out strong outscoring Puyallup 5 – 1 in the first quarter, than pouring on 9 goals in the second to take a strong 14 – 1 lead at the half.  In the second, the defending state champions cruised to the win adding 3 goals in the third and 2 in the fourth.  Cole Johnson contributed 3 goals and Dakota Jones collected 11 ground balls in the win. With the win, Bellevue advances to 2-0-0 on the season, while Puyallup is now winless in 2 starts.  The Wolverines next see action at home as California’s Palo Verde travels to Bellevue, Friday, March 25 in a 6 p.m. start.  On Friday, Puyallup travels to Vancouver to take on King’s Way in an 8 p.m. start at Columbia River High School.

Lake Washington edges Lake Tapps in boys lacrosse

KIRKLAND – Jake Bernstein scored 4 goals as Lake Washington edged Lake Tapps 11 – 10 in boys inter-divisional high school lacrosse action, Tuesday at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland.  Lake Washington jumped to an 8 – 3 half time lead before battling through the second half for the win.  Ben Anderson added 2 goals and Reilly Blackner grabbed 7 ground balls for the Kangs.  Andy Russell scored 3 goals for Lake Tapps.  Lake Washington next takes on Northshore, Thursday, March 24 in a 7:30 p.m. home start.  Lake Tapps travels to Vancouver to take on King’s Way on Saturday, March 26.  The game starts at 7 p.m. at Columbia River High School.

Boys Division II 

Providence rolls past San Juan in boys lacrosse

WOODINVILLE – Caleb Moisant scored 6 goals to lead all scorers as Providence Classical Christian School rolled past San Juan 18 – 3 in boys Division II high school lacrosse action, Tuesday at the Woodinville Sports Fields.  Ryan Morris opened scoring just 3 minutes into the first, beating San Juan’s Willy Dunn with a blazing shot from the outside.  San Juan’s Kyle Hills answered with his only goal of the night to even the game at one, before Providence closed the quarter with a 3 -1 lead.  In the second, the Highlanders broke loose with 10 goals to take a 13 – 2 lead into the half before cruising to the win.  Hayden Thomas netted 4 goals, Oliver Thomas and Ryan Morris each added 3 to add to the goal haul for the Highlanders.  Sean Hills had 2 goals to round out San Juan scoring and goaltender Willy Dunn had 15 saves for the Dragons.  San Juan is winless in 3 starts this season.  Providence next meets North County at Lynwood High School at 8 p.m., Friday, March 25, San Juan takes on Woodinville at Friday Harbor High School, at 2 p.m., also on Friday.

Klahowya rolls past South Kitsap in boys lacrosse

SILVERDALE -- Nick Johanson and Kevin Bastien each scored 4 goals as Klahowya rolled past South Kitsap 15 – 2 for its first boys Division II high school lacrosse win of the season, Tuesday at Central Kitsap Junior High School.  South Kitsap managed just 2 goals, all in the first half by Brennon LaPorte and Jacob Pergande as Klahowya jumped out to an 8 – 2 halftime lead. Along with their scoring output Johanson contributed 3 assists and 8 ground balls, while Bastien grabbed 3 ground balls.  Other top scorers for Klahowya included Chris McGuire with 3 goals and 9 ground balls and Jeff Haga with a goal and 9 ground balls.  Nehemiah Salo had 8 saves in goal.  With the loss, South Kitsap slipped to 0-3-0 on the season.  Klahowya next sees action, at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 23 as Gig Harbor at Central Kitsap Junior High, while South Kitsap travels to Gig Harbor on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. match-up.

Garfield drops Ballard 17 – 6 in boys lacrosse

SEATTLE – Justin Guity scored 4 goals and Cedric Rhodes netted 3 to lead Garfield to a 17 – 6 boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Ballard, Tuesday at Lower Woodland Playfield in Seattle.  Garfield struck early, jumping to a 6 – 2 lead in the first quarter before scoring 4 unanswered goals in the second for the 10 – 2 halftime lead.  In the second half the Bulldogs added 2 in the third and 5 in the final stanza to cruise to the win.  Danny Strick had 14 saves in goal for Garfield first win.  Jacob Marks and Scott Brownlee each had 2 goals for Ballard, which evened its record to 1-1-0.  The Bulldogs next travel to the Tri-Cities on Friday, March 25 for a 7 p.m. contest with Three Rivers at Badger Mountain Park.  Ballard next faces Highline, Wednesday, March 23 for an 8 p.m. start at Moshier Park.

Sammamish nets 16 to down Redmond in boys lacrosse

BELLEVUE –  Tyvan Schmidt, Andrew Wenzl and Brian Headland each scored 3 goals to lead Sammamish to a 16 – 2 boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Redmond, Tuesday at Newport High School in Bellevue.  Sammamish struck early scoring 3 in the 5 in the second to take an 8 – 0 lead into the intermission before cruising to the win.  With the win Sammamish is a perfect 3-0-0 on the season, while Redmond slipped to 2-1-0.  Sammamish next travels to Port Angeles for a 3 p.m. start on Saturday, March 16. Redmond next sees action Thursday, March 24 for a 7:30 p.m. start against Liberty at Marymoor Park.

Roosevelt drops Holy Names in girls lacrosse

SEATTLE – Adrienne Leonard scored 4 goals to lead Roosevelt to a 17 – 9 girls Division I high school lacrosse win over Holy Names, Tuesday at Summit Field in Seattle. Katie Peltonen, Taylor Christensen and Alice Christenson each added 3 goals for the Roughriders in the win.  Karolina Pyszkiewicz and Rayna Stackhouse each netted 2 goals for the Cougars.  With the win, Roosevelt advanced to 3-1-0, while Holy Names is now winless in 2 starts.  Roosevelt next takes on Issaquah at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 29 at Lower Woodland Playfield in Seattle. Holy Names next travels to Snohomish for a 7:30 p.m. start on Wednesday, March 30 at Glacier Peak High School.
