ANDREAWATCH: Curtis Product Andrea Geubelle Takes Outdoor Big 12 Triple Jump Title

The University Place native recorded a mark of 44 feet, 2.75 inches for the University of Kansas. Now, she sets her sights on the West Regional competition and the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The Curtis product who's now a Kansas Jayhawk cruised to an outdoor triple jump title over the weekend, recording a mark of 44 feet, 2.75 inches, which was nearly a foot longer than the next best mark.

"The jump, just an inch shy of her season best, wouldn't be approached by any other athlete," according to the Kansas Jayhawks website. "Geubelle eased into finals, only recording one more fair jump, but it wouldn't matter. She would take the conference crown by almost a foot and tack on an additional 10 points to her team's total."

The title comes two months after Geubelle captured the in the event and three months after her .

Geubelle becomes just the third Jayhawk to tally an outdoor triple jump conference title and the first since Crystal Manning placed first at the 2007 Big 12 meet, according to the Jayhawks website.

Geubelle also placed second in the long jump (21 feet, 4 inches) behind teammate and champion Francine Simpson.

In all, the local track-and-field product collected 18 points on the weekend.

After the meet, Geubelle appeared humble despite her dominance in the event.

"Wished for a bigger jump, I guess, but to win it feels awesome," she said.

Geubelle now must set her sightes on the NCAA West Regional Preliminary in Austin, Texas, May 24-26, where a strong performance will catapult her into the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

"The fact that I'm consistently jumping 44 shows that I'm ready for a 45, 46 foot jump," she said. "Since it didn't come here I'm hoping it will come at NCAA's."
