VIEWFINDER: University Place Recognizes 100-Year Anniversary of Girl Scouts of America

Representing the group was Lillian Ecklund, a member of the local Daisy Girl Scouts and daughter of City Engineer Jack Ecklund.

Although much of the Monday night's University Place City Council meeting focused on a at the Civic Building, officials did take time recognize a group of exceptional girls.

This year marks the 100-year anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America, and City Councilwoman Denise McCluskey, a former scout herself, read a proclamation into the record book.

While a city proclamation is nothing to sneeze at, the even bigger deal was the person accepting the honor on the Girl Scouts' behalf.

Lillian Ecklund, 6, is a member of the Daisy Girl Scouts Troop No. 438888. Her last name might sound familiar, as her dad is City Engineer Jack Ecklund, who accompanied her in front of the City Council Chambers, along with her younger sister.

Here are a few pictures I snapped. Congratulations to Lillian, Denise and any other Girl Scouts on this pretty special occasion.
