University Place Honors Art Broback, Tomick and Torsen Necessary

Mayor Ken Grassi read a proclamation on behalf of the Friends of Homestead Park for Broback, a longtime UP resident whose family was a pioneering one in the community.

The City of University Place recognized three big names who contributed plenty to the community, both in artful ways and otherwise.

The Friends of Homestead Park and Mayor Ken Grassi honored Art Broback, who has contributed time and energy to turning the park into what it is today. Broback, whose family immigrated to the United States, said he was thankful to live in a community such as UP.

The group said it plans to name a plant after Broback, which could eventually 50 other "little Art Brobacks."

City Councilwoman Denise McCluskey also recognized Curtis High's musicians who have gained lots of recognition for their musical talents. They even performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
