University Place Enrollment At 5,303 FTE's To Start The Year

That's more than the school district expected, but it's fewer than last year.

The first headcount of the school year showed University Place had 5,303 FTE's in its classrooms, the UP School Board learned Wednesday night.

That figure - according to John Sander, Executive Director Human Resources & Special Services - is 151 students above what the district had budgeted for, but is about 90 students less than last year.

Classes began Sept. 6.

The amount of money that school districts get from the state is based on the number of full-time equivalent students.

The biggest jump was at the intermediate school level, which was up 43 students, Sander said.

Overall, he said, the school district's enrollment was a pleasant surprise, "but it's still a time to be fiscally conservative," he said.
