TIERRAWATCH: Crockrell Wins Gold At The AAU Junior Olympic Games

The 10-year-old, track-and-field phenom from University Place placed first in the girls triathlon in the bantam division. She also placed fourth in the long jump.

New Orleans β€” Tierra Crockrell won gold in the girls triathlon event in the bantam division of the AAU Junior Olympics earlier this month.

The 10-year-old from University Place totaled 1,349 points, almost 100 points more than the runner up.

She bested about 40 other athletes in the shot put (7.83 meters) and the 200-meter dash (28.37 seconds). She tied for fifth place in the third event, the high jump (1.25 meters).

Tierra also placed fourth in the individual long jump in the bantam division (13 feet, 11 inches).

The field of the nation's top athletes in track and field had to battle the elements of extreme temperatures and humidity, according to Tricia, Tierra's mother.

"The heat was unbearable," she said.
