Tacoma Community College's Mark McLaughlin Headed North, Commits To Washington

The Titan finished the regular season as the nation's top scorer at 28.4 points per game. His job will be to help fill the void left by Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten, both Husky backcourt players who are entering the NBA draft.

No Ross. No Wroten. No problem, right?

At least that's what you're saying if you're a fan.

Several media outlets are reporting today that the Tacoma Community College standout - who led the nation in scoring at the junior college level this season - has committed to playing at the University of Washington next year.

The 6-foot-6 guard will bring an "all-around" game to Montlake, according to Titans Coach Carl Howell. McLaughlin is a threat from the midrange, as well as behind the arc. Another benefit for a Husky front court that lacked a true post presence this season? McLaughlin can post up in the box, according to his coach.

"In my opinion he is the most complete scorer I have seen in my time in the NWAACC," Howell said earlier this year.

News of McLaughlin's commitment comes after consecutive days of Husky underclassmen in their backcourt declaring themselves eligible for the NBA. On Monday, sophomore Terrence Ross said adios to Montlake, then polarizing freshman Tony Wroten Jr. did the same on Tuesday.

Could UW Coach Lorenzo Romar have been keeping the McLaughlin card up his sleeve the whole time? Who knows? One thing's for sure: the Huskies sure aren't taking time to dwell on their losses.
