Student of the Week: Jenna Mullen

Emerald Ridge sophomore is part of the "Fab Five" sophomore volleyball players, and hopes to someday become a coach.

Editor’s note: Every week, Patch will use five questions to profile a local student who has accomplished something awesome, whether it be serving in a leadership role; scoring the winning touchdown or earning an Eagle Scout badge. There are some great kids in our community, and we want to celebrate them!

This week, meet Jenna Mullen, 15. Jenna is part of Emerald Ridge High School’s “Fab Five” sophomore volleyball players. At outside hitter, she tallied a game-high nine kills, two blocks and 10 digs in Tuesday’s 3-0 sweep of Curtis for the South Puget Sound League South Division title.

1. What are some of your accomplishments that make you our Student of the Week? I run track and play volleyball (both club and at Emerald Ridge). My favorite thing about volleyball is being with my team. They push me and motivate me to play harder. They’re like my sisters on the court.

2. What are your future plans? I want to study elementary education. I hope to play college volleyball and then coach after I get my degree.

3. How does it feel to win the SPSL South?
It feels great. After our loss (to Bethel last week), we came together and made sure we’d make the last game really count. We wanted to beat them in three, and we swept them in three.

4. In 10 years, I will be … teaching kindergarten. I like little kids.

5. One of my hidden talents is … I tap dance.

6. So, do you ever tap dance on the court? <Laughs> Yeah, a little bit.
