Narrows View Intermediate Student Dies After Becoming Ill Earlier This Week

Narrows View Principal Eric Brubaker sent a letter home with students Friday informing families of the Raymond Choi's death.

A Narrows View Intermediate student died Friday after he became ill during a health and fitness class earlier in the week.

Narrows View Principal Eric Brubaker sent a letter to the school's families informing them of the death of Raymond Choi, a seventh-grader.

According to Brubaker's letter, Choi was transported to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital on Monday after becoming ill in the class.

Classmates were aware of the student's ill health, and "we asked teachers to share the news of his death with their students today. Students were also advised that district counselors were available to meet with them at their request."

Brubaker wrote that the school and staff are dedicated to helping students cope with the tragedy.

He wrote that "just knowing that a Narrows View student passed away can trigger other emotions that the student might need help to process. Our district team of counselors is trained to respond to these situations and will be available for on-going counseling support for students who wish to speak with someone at school."

The principal added that the school will share information on Choi's services per his family's wishes.
