Curtis Grad Dominque Williams Leads Tacoma Community College to NWAACC Title

KENNEWICK-A former Curtis High basketball star executed an offensive scoring barrage that willed his team to a league championship Tuesday night.

No, his last name was neither Thomas or Lacy.

It's Williams, as in Dominque Williams, as in the man whose 36 points helped the Titans capture the NWAACC championship with a 110-98 victory over Chemeketa.

Williams, a 5-foot-10 sophomore and Curtis gradute, shot 50 percent from the field, including going 6-for-14 from the behind the arc. He also had five assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Mark McLaughlin, the nation's highest scorer heading into the tournament at the Toyota Center, scored 24 points, and Nate Walker added 23 points.

Julian Vaughn, another Curtis product, collected four points, four rebounds and a team-high three blocks.

For the Storm, Gavin Kauffman led the team with 32 points.

For Titans Coach Carl Howell, the win ends a 10-year draught without an NWAACC championship. He becomes the fifth coach in the league's history to win multiple championships.
