Curtis Opens State Tournament Play With 62-40 Victory Over Newport

The Vikings were led by Dominic Robinson's 18 points, as their defense steadily wore down the Knights in Thursday's first game at the Tacoma Dome. The Vikings play the winner of the Bothell-Garfield game at 3:45 p.m., Friday.

TACOMA-Dominic Robinson scored 18 points and Curtis' defense gradually became more suffocating to help the Vikings earn a 62-40 victory over Newport in the first game of the state playoffs.

Curtis will either play Garfield or Bothell at 3:45 p.m., Friday.

Robinson again provided the bulk of Vikings' scoring, and he led the team with five steals.

Dominique Jordan added 11 points, and Isom Brown scored 10 points and collected six rebounds.

Isaac Dotson led the Knights with 14 points before fouling out. Will Ferris scored 13 points.

The Vikings held a 31-25 lead, and it appeared the game might be close throughout. But they opened the second half with buckets from Jordan, Tony Causey and Robinson.

As Newport had trouble finding the basket, Curtis was able to pull away.
