VIEWFINDER: Joint Base Lewis-McChord Celebrates First Combined College Graduation

It was the first time the base has celebrated both Army and Air Force personnel since it merged what was then-Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base. Today's event took place at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood.

For the first time here in the South Sound, the region's largest military installation honored Army and Air Force personnel who have graduated from college.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord honored hundreds of those service members during a combined graduation ceremony today at Clover Park Technical College.

After I Corps Com. Sgt. Major Daniel K. Verbeke spoke, each graduate received their diploma, whether it was an associate, bachelor or master's degree.

I was one of them. Well, I didn't scream but I was proud of my cousin, Duane, an Iraq Army vet and Washington Army National Guard recruiter who received his master's degree. Good job, bro.
