Who do you believe?
That's the question at the center of a war of words between University Place and
The News Tribune's Christian Hill just published a great story about the political controversy between the city and the Pierce County Councilman. Muri is running for the 10th Congressional District spot against, among others, Stan Flemming, University Place's first mayor.
Basically, the city wants Muri, a Steilacoom Republican, to stop the trash talk about its finances. Why? The city says it's flat-out false.
But Muri, who's working to gain an edge on Flemming, has stated repeatedly that the city is in financial trouble, due mostly to a big investment and lack of financial return on Town Center.
He's also stated that Flemming is boasting about his time leading the city, according to Hill's story.
UP Mayor Ken Grassi drafted but never sent a letter to Muri, asking him to nix the "disparaging remarks," according to the newspaper, which obtained the letter from the city. University Place has worked to clear misconceptions about the project and keep the public abreast on the latest developments.
It's political theater, no doubt. We ask you, Patch users, which side of the story do you believe?
