POLL: Is Installing a Division Headquarters at Joint Base Lewis-McChord A Good Thing?

Army Secretary John McHugh is expected to announce a plan to install the division headquarters, which would provide more oversight of soldiers at JBLM.

Although Army Secretery John McHugh isn't expected to address the media until later today, several media outlets are reporting that he will announce the installation of a division headquarters at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Essentially, the move would add more administration at the installation a few miles from University Place. In the wake of recent tragedies involving soldiers tied to the base - including the alleged killing of - the move would also add oversight of some 35,000 active-duty soldiers currently assigned to JBLM, Pierce County's largest employer.

The move would also bring hundreds more soldiers to JBLM, which according to The News Tribune's Adam Ashton is one of the largest in the country, yet doesn't enjoy the same "administrative resources" as Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Hood in Texas.
