This is news !? Hers's some news ! The biggest Impact Fee on the City Of U.P. is the "City Of U.P. Itself" ! The start of the Idea of "City" was "to get more services for the money were we paying in taxes". That "was, is and will continue to be" a TOTAL FAILURE. The Council, delirious Planning Commission (still delirious) simply "ordered the Credit Card" and started their 17 yr. LANDSCAPING PROJECT (Look at this video). - 4 lane streets to 2 lane streets with traffic impeding "8,000+ street trees" down the middle & sides with dangerous bike lanes. (If a bike is in a lane - it gets the entire lane and the "text messegers/cell phoners" don't get a better chance to KILL the bicyclist). THIS LANE REDUCTION IMPEEDES TRAFFIC & DECREASES SAFETY. - ROUNDABOUTS : "...KEEP TRAFFIC FLOWING..." WHAT MORON THOUGHT THAT UP. Traffic light: When there are vehicles entering a main road - the light stops the traffic - a safe entry concludes. 99% of the time traffic flows - NO TRAFFIC IMPACT.

- Cirque went from 4 lanes to 2 lanes from 67th to Lakewood Drive & a Roundabout. Every person going thru the RA slows to a stop or crawl ! TRAFFIC IMPACT TO THE MAX - Just go there in the morn or after noon and see the backup to S. Tacoma Way !? "The City of U.P." says their Finances are in fine shape. U.P. continuously is asking for "handouts from County, State,Federal and any entity dumb enough to even consider it. Citizens are asleep - the entire world is out of money. There is no money to steal - pay attention. Stop all spending - pay down the debt. The City is NOT on a Sound Financial Plan. $60,000,000. Plus Interest Debt out to 2032 & beyond - Equates to $150,000+ @ month in Interest alone. Manager Bob Jean, the Council and arrogant, ignorant and stupid Planning Commission (some of which are now Council Members) have led this City into GIVING away ALL OR Most of your hard earned money on a failed from the beginning "Town Center (old world) Plan".

CANCEL: ALL TRAFFIC IMPACT FEES - because if U.P. doesn't - businesses will not "house" in a city (of "Uppity Yuppies) who hate the very businesses (fair taxes) that will allow their city to prosper - get the money - then spend it on window dressing. We are spending more on taking care of the IMPACTING TREES WELFARE than the $300,000. needed a few years ago for "YOUTH ATHLETIC PROGRAMS WELFARE". THIS CITY IS A JOKE - TOP TO BOTTOM - IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. WITH COWARDLY PEA-BRAINS IN CHARGE - WHAT COULD WE EXPECT. Thank you ! Carl J. Mollnow 253-564-1481 “MOLLNOW 4 U.P. REPEAT : This is news !? Here’s some news ! The biggest Impact Fee on the City Of U.P. is the "City Of U.P. Itself" ! The start of the Idea of "City" was "to get more services for the money were we paying in taxes". A TOTAL FAILURE ! To continue to make the same Mistakes over and over and over again and Expect Different Results is truly Inspiring. Businesses already Do Not and have not trusted U.P. after they threw out over 35 businesses but for "...making University Place Bellevue South..." (the mantra of "the mother(Mayor) of U.P.") and others. U.P. should never have happened - it soaks up 3+ million $ a year in needless bodies, infrastructure , landscaping costs and electing pea-brains to office when simple morons would suffice.

There is nothing I love more than a Carl Mollnow rant. Keep it up, Carl!

Whether you agree with Carl's assessment or not, it still respresents only a minority opinion because the elected city leaders who made, and continued to make, poor management decision were elected, and re-elected by UP voters. It's obvious that a majority of UP voters are happy with both paying the highest property taxes in the region and living with a burdening amount of long term debt which has caused a reduction in city services to core (bare bones) levels and the laying off of over 25% of city staff. It's too bad that only the majority view is represented by our elected officials. Both majority and minority views could be fairly represented but in doing so elected politicians would have to compromise and in UP compromise is a bad word, along with free enterprise. Howard Howard

No, it is not "too bad" that only the majority view is represented. It is a wonderful thing. That is the way voting is meant to work. It's the precious mechanism by which the Mollnows and Carnrites of our fair city are kept safely in their own alternate realities without intruding meaningfully on the real world where we are trying to live, work and raise families.
Christie Anderson June 26, 2012 at 12:00 AM
Absolutely right Howard....It is the uninformed electorate in UP that has caused most of the city's financial difficulties by continuing to elect individuals who haven't been able to just say NO to excessive staff spending and/or who are more interested in using their city council position as a platform for election to higher office...just sayin'.
