Lee Says He Will Run For Belleci's Spot Instead Of Klosowski's

The candidate had announced earlier that he would run for the position occupied by Mayor Debbie Klosowski, who announced she is not running for re-election.

Howard Lee says he is still running for a spot on the University Place City Council in November, just not the one he was eyeing Β earlier this month.

Lee told Patch earlier this week that he now intends to run for Position 7, the spot currently held by .

The Navy retiree and critic of the City Council announced he was running for Position 2, a spot occupied by Mayor Debbie Klosowski since UP's incorporation in 1995, although she this year.

Days after Lee announced his plans, University Place School Board member , which prompted Lee to rethink his race.

He said he wanted to make sure no incumbent City Council member runs unopposed. In his e-mail to Patch, he already began throwing subtle and unsubtle political jabs at Belleci.

"I strongly feel that UP voters should have a choice as to whom they want to represent them on the City Council," he wrote in an e-mail to Patch. "An incumbent running unopposed does not provide that opportunity. I strongly support fiscal responsibility, beginning with financial programs which lead to debt reduction; accountability in the performance of both city council members and city staff; and representation of the electorate in the true spirit of RCW, rather than what public officials feel is best for them."
