QUESTION: What should University Place do with the Kobayashi House?

The future of the Kobayashi house is again unclear.

And again, the City of University Place must again decide what to do with the house along Leach Creek that it purchased eight years ago.

The News Tribune's Christian Hill produced an informative piece on the dilemma facing the city about Kobayashi's future.

Basically, a group that includes former University Place City Councilwoman Lorna Smith is again trying to save the structure as is, with their main tool being the house's placement on the National Register of Historic Places, according to the newspaper.

But the city - whose parks and recreation commission recommends gutting the house while still making it available for public use - continues to face the issues of mold and blackening to the aging structure.

Ann Castner with the University Place Historical Society tells Patch that the University Place City Council is scheduled to discuss the house's future in mid-November.
