Javier Figueroa Seeks Re-Election for Council Position 1

Councilman Javier Figueroa announced his intentions to run for a second term on the UP Council.

From the office of University Place councilman Javier Figueroa:

Javier Figueroa is currently serving his first term in office as council member for the City of University Place. He will be seeking re-election for Council Position 1 on November 5, 2013.

Figueroa currently serves as Council Finance Chair, 2015 U.S. Open University Place Task Force Member and as the Vice President/Commissioner for the Rainier Communications Commission. While in office, he has served as the Vice-Chairman of the Public Transportation Improvement Conference and earned the Certificate of Municipal Leadership.

Entering 2013, Figueroa will work on continuing conservative financial practices that allow the City of University Place to successfully adapt to new economic realities as witnessed during the past 4 years. During his tenure as councilman, he worked along other council members to make significant legislative changes in city ordinances to open opportunities for economic development within the City of University Place.  Late 2012, as the Finance Chair, he worked with council members and city staff to refinance approximately $15,000,000 of bonds due in 2013. Additional council accomplishments include restoring funding for an additional law enforcement detective, Parks & Recreation Youth Programs and Senior Citizen activities.

Figueroa's professional experience encompasses the field of real estate development, energy conservation, environmental issues and fundraising.

In 2009, the native of Monterrey, Mexico became the first naturalized citizen from Mexico to be elected in Washington State. Figueroa is a U.S. Army Veteran.
