Get Ready For Media Convergence On JBLM For Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales' Trial

The two-week trial that begins Nov. 5 will be closely watched worldwide, which means plenty of news outlets will be covering it.

The Nov. 5 military trial of Joint Base Lewis-McChord Staff Sgt. Robert Bales - the man accused of carrying out a nightime massacre earlier this year in Afghanistan - is expected to bring a horde of news media to the South Sound.

The international community is expected to pay close attention to the trial, for which Bales was transported to JBLM over the weekend. The Lake Tapps man faces a myriad of military charges connected to the March 11 shootings, including 16 specifications of premeditated murder and six specifications of attempted premeditated murder.

Now, with his trial looming, the attention of the world will be focused on JBLM come next month.

The base is already preparing for the crush. Space is limited, so the base's public affairs might have to draw names out of a hat to determine which media outlets get to sit in the courtroom.
