Former Fircrest Councilman, TCC President Passed Away Monday

Robert F. Thaden died just before his 77th birthday on Monday, July 15, 2013.

Local educator and Fircrest councilman Robert F. Thaden died Monday, just before his 77th birthday, according to a news release from the city of Fircrest.

Thaden was appointed to the Fircrest City Council on March 26, 1996 and selected by the Council to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore on January 8, 2002.    

He taught English, business and critical thinking at Tacoma Community College and served four terms as president of the faculty.

While serving in the Army, Thaden was an officer in the Military Police Corps.

Fircrest Mayor David M. Viafore requested that city flags be flown at half staff in memory of Councilmember Thaden.

"We honor Bob for his 17 years of loyal service on the Fircrest City Council. This is a sad day for our City," said Viafore. "Bob was more than a Councilmember, he was a friend to all.”
