University Place spent $32,332 on snow removal and cleanup in February.

During February and December, the city consumed 9,000 gallons of de-icer and 140 tons of sand/salt mix, which officials say is normal for the amount of snow.

But the city's public works crews did rely on some older pieces of equipment, including a five-horsepower motor for the de-icer spray trucks and a hydraulic motor for sand spreaders. The cost to replace this equipment is $18,000 to $20,000.

"We will need to replace these materials prior to next winter storm season," wrote Gary Cooper, public works and parks director, in a memo that he will give at .
