The first wave of results from the August 6 Primary Election are in, and the numbers show the West Pierce Fire and Rescue levy is passing among voters in the fire district.

As of 8:15 p.m. on Election Night, 68.53 percent of voters said yes to approving the levy, while 31.47 percent of voters said no. In all, 11,029 ballots have been received thus far, with nearly 24 percent turnout among all registered voters.

The fire district, serving the communities of University Place and Lakewood, has requested $22.3 million over two years to fund 38 percent of the fire district’s operating budget, to avoid staffing cuts or a reduction in service.
