DISCUSSION: Romney Selects Ryan as Running Mate

The Wisconsin Congressman is seen by many to be a rising star of the Republican party.

Presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney  that his running mate for vice president will be U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.

Washington State Republican Party Chairman Kirby Wilbur issued a statement calling Ryan, who serves as budget committee chairman in the U.S. House of Representatives and the man behind the so-called "Ryan Budget," a "bold and exciting choice for Mitt Romney."

Choosing Paul Ryan to be his running mate shows how serious Romney is about fixing the economic crisis and it shows that he’s willing and able to make the decisions that get the job done. ...(Ryan) has already gone head-to-head with President Obama and proven that he can easily hold his own. He is young, dynamic, smart, and capable, and is the right man for the job.

What do you think? Is Paul Ryan the right person for the job? Does Romney's selection make you more likely to vote for him? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.

Thank you for delivering Florida to the Democratic party, Mitt.

Dan, Well, I think if I was him I would have picked the Gov of Florida (pure popularity). But with that choice he might have thought that he would win the battle (election), but loose the war (economy). So if he truly believes that we are in real financial trouble as country (do or die), Ryan might be a good choice. Originally I was an Obama supporter, now I think in 4 years, he all but put our country out of business. Four more years of the same and there will be nothing left for anyone; If you have not lost your small business, job or house in this 4 years (sorry if you have), be prepared for more of the same for the next four years and that will be that.

Excellent choice! As someone who has lost their job twice while this present administration is in control I do not want the same for another 4 years. Ryan is the architect of an economic plan that will turn the economy around. He has more experience than any other on the economy which is the #1 concern for most Americans.

If Romney chose Ryan to stem a mass exodus of Ron Paul supporters from the Republican Party I think he will fail. Ryan is just as locked into the big-government-can-fix-anything mindset as Romney and Obama.

Mitt closed the gap on the Ayn Rand Republicans... the old GOP supporters of the Javits/Rockefeller era no longer exist...nor do the Ripon Society Republicans. The Republican Party choice here emphasizes this drift to the right. Moderate Republicans are now independents politically or conservative or progressive democrats. Mitt may have made a big mistake in his selection...we will see.

You idiots that think Obama is liberal are crazy. Ryan is horrendous. He is insane, quite frankly literally. They are great for the top 1% and if any of you think tax breaks give us jobs why the hell hasn't it work for the last TEN YEARS! They have had the chance and have not done it. Every single republican has voted against jobs -- their only goal has been to get obama out that is obstruction over what is good for the country. If Ryan and Romney are in we are dead and will be the largest third world country in the world within a year --- oh, it might take two years. We will all be out of work as all jobs will be overseas and all the money will be too. You damn fools every one of you.

in my opinion, the grand in the gop left with eisenhower....these republicans are hypocritical at best...they want the government to stay out of everything except what their religious beliefs dictate, or at least the religion they claim to believe...those in the top 1% need to pay more taxes, that is plain and simple because it is unpatriotic to let this country go down the tubes while giving these ultra rich individuals more tax breaks...so how is that trickle down economics working for everyone???

The last four years have devastated our country and economy. While I don't think it was intentional, I think it was naive, inexperience. Look at the empty homes and businesses and the huge debt that Obama has created. Look at the wasted stimulus money that ran up the debt and did little to create real jobs. We can’t have more people on the system than pay in to the system (government workers and entitlements). Someone has to pay for the mess! All you have to do is a bit of travel and you will realize that government is not that answer and the system that has worked for the last 232 years is the best around. The experiment over the last 4 years has not worked. Again I once supported Obama and now I'm a NObama supporter. As much as I was a hope and change person, I don’t like the change and have lost hope that he has what it takes to run the country. If you don’t think that small, medium and large business is the answer, then who is left to pay for everything? I'm nowhere near the 1% or maybe even the 25% but I know enough that we need those people to create real jobs! Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!
