University Place Police Say They've Nabbed Doorstep Package-Thief

Deputies arrested the alleged thief who earlier prompted the city to issue an alert Thursday night. The suspect told deputies that he "decided to make things happen for Christmas."

University Place Police believe they have captured the community's doorstep package-stealing Grinch.

Chief Mike Blair says deputies arrested the suspect who prompted authorities to issue a CodeRED alert about front-porch package thefts Thursday night.

It began when a U.S. Postal Service carrier delivered packages to the front porch of a residence in the 3500 block of Olympic Boulevard. The packages included Christmas presents: children's toys and women's boots.

A video surveillance camera captured the suspect vehicle, and deputies later investigated and identified the suspected thief. Authorities located the vehicle and the suspect's estranged wife, who "confirmed the suspect gave her a pair of boots as a present and also indicated the stolen toys were still in the vehicle," Blair said.

Deputies contacted the suspect, who admitted to the thefts. According to Blair, he told authorities that he "decided to make things happen for Christmas."
