University Place Police Holding Free Defensive Firearms Classes

The free classes will take place Saturdays, April 6 and April 13, from 3 to 5 p.m.

University Place Police Deputy Dan Hacker will be leading two free classes regarding defensive firearms in April.

This will be a classroom setting, where the students do not do any actual firearms handling. It is recommended that students are at least 12 years of age.

Participants should not bring firearms to class.

All classes will take place at the University Place Police Department, 3609 Market Place W, Suite 201.

The Basic Defensive Firearms class will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 3 to 5 p.m.

  • Firearms safety
  • Use of force law
  • Liability
  • Alternatives to firearm use
  • Basic handgun control
  • Manipulation

The Advanced Defensive Firearms class is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Covered topics include:

  • Importance of advanced training
  • Types of advanced training
  • Hazards of advanced training
  • Advanced handgun manipulation
  • Defensive firearm tactics
  • Preparing your mind for combat
  • Post-shooting etiquette
