University Place Man Involved In Seven-Car Crash On Interstate 5 Thursday Evening
The 42-year-old man was treated at the scene. A man from Tacoma was transported to Tacoma General Hospital. The accident near 375th in King County backed up traffic for miles.
A University Place driver was involved in a seven-vehicle pileup Thursday on Interstate 5 that sent one person to the hospital and slowed traffic to a crawl.
The 42-year-old UP man was wearing a seatbelt when his 1998 Toyota was sandwiched in between cars. He sustained injuries but was treated at the scene.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver of a freight truck was traveling on southbound I-5 near 375th in King County around 5:16 p.m., and couldnβt stop.

The freight truck hit a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 55-year-old Tacoma man, which caused a chain reaction with six other vehicles, including the one driven by the UP man.
The car driven by the Tacoma caught fire, which caused the freight vehicle and a 2008 Toyota to catch fire.

In all, four people were injured in the collision. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, and the people involved were from UP, Tacoma, Graham, Puyallup, Gig Harbor and Tenino.
The accident blocked multiple lanes and stretched the line of rush-hour commuters back for miles.
