Shandon Wright Joins Ranks of Pierce County Sheriff's Fallen Deputies

On Thursday, his picture was added to a memorial for fallen deputies.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department - which contracts with University Place for the city's police force - held a ceremony on Thursday, May 3, to add Deputy Shandon Wright's picture to a memorial for fallen deputies.

A ribbon bearing Wright's name was also added to the Sheriff's Department flag. The ceremony was attended by the fallen deputy's family and friends, and it featured remarks by Sheriff Paul Pastor, County Council Chair Joyce McDonald and County Executive Pat McCarthy.

Wright, 29, died in March 2011 after complications from injuries sustained while making an arrest. He is survived by his wife and young daughter.
