National Night Out Happening Right Now

UP Police and volunteers will be visiting 42 neighborhoods tonight.

As I type this, University Place Police, West Pierce Fire and volunteers are beginning to canvas the city as part of National Night Out.

The program aims to increase the ever-important connection between law enforcement and the people it protects.

According to University Place Public Safety Manager Jennifer Hales, "We are visiting 42 neighborhoods around the city (police, Fire, elected officials and staff)."

Other communities such as Lakewood and Tacoma are celebrating National Night Out, which takes place the first Tuesday of August.

So if you see a bunch of cops out and about tonight, don't be too alarmed. In fact, it might even make you feel safer.
