"I Don't Want To Associate With Those People Anymore": UP Blotter 8/2-8/7

Aug. 2, 2013

Begging: A woman reported that a man was standing outside of her business and wanted him moved along. She said he had entered the store, made nachos and did not have money to pay for it. He went outside and stood in front of the business, begging for dollar bills. Officers found the man matching the woman's description. He tried to run but was caught, handcuffed and found to be extremely intoxicated. When the officer asked him why he was hanging out in front of the business, the man said, "I don't know."

Roof walkers: At Curtis High School, officers responded to a burglary alarm, in which the reporting party said he heard movement and possible glass breakage from a wing of the building. A deputy spotted two teenage boys walking away from the school and the two officers detained them. The boys said they had been long boarding on school grounds and that they had wanted to get on the roof of the building because they had heard of others doing the same thing. One said they'd gotten to the walkway cover but left when they saw police arrive. The boys were released to responsible adults.

Aug. 3, 2013

Drugged driving: An officer followed a vehicle parked in the middle of the road on 29th St. W. at 3:23 a.m. The driver appeared to be talking on a cell phone and failed to use his turn signal. He continued to speed up, ignoring the police lights and sirens and still failing to signal, and going the wrong direction in a traffic circle. He sped up to 65 mph, eventually stopping at a dead end, jumping out of the vehicle and yelling that he was just trying to take his girlfriend's car back to her. The officer put the man into his patrol car and noticed syringes inside the vehicle, and the man said he used heroin and crack cocaine. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs, talking rapidly. The woman who owned the vehicle came outside and consented to a search. Police found 20 syringes and a spoon with heroin residue. The man was booked into Pierce County Jail for Felony Eluding, Use of Paraphernalia and No Valid Operator's License without ID. The vehicle was release to the woman.

Indecent Liberties: A woman called to report a man had inappropriately touched her while she was visiting his apartment. He was very intoxicated, and she was bothered that he wanted to show her his gun, although he did not threaten her with it. When she said she wanted to leave, he put his hands under her clothes. She left and called police. The man was still quite intoxicated when police arrived. They arrested him for Indecent Liberties and booked him into Pierce County Jail.

Aug. 5, 2013

Trespass: A man and woman reported an elderly woman who had walked into their house uninvited and said she wanted to talk to the man. The woman from the house said the man didn't want to talk to her and called police. The older woman walked down the hall, found the man and started taking pictures of things. The man told her to leave and she did before police arrived. The man said he'd met the woman because on his blog, he received an anonymous tip that the older woman's roommate was using or selling marijuana inside city buildings in Tacoma. He believed she was upset with him for posting it and alluded that she was a little crazy. Attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.

Aug. 6, 2013

Missing Person With Limitations: A worker at the Whispering Hope Adult Family Home said his client had left the home the previous day and had not been heard from. The man was last seen wearing a blue sweater, white shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes. The worker said that although the man is not a danger to himself or others; he does takes medication to cope with mental disorders. He has not taken his medication since he left the home. The worker said the man had stopped by his mother's residence in Puyallup at one point the day before but had since left.

Unwanted Property: A man came to the police department reporting that another man who'd borrowed his vehicle had left a fishing knife and three .22 cal rounds in his vehicle. He said he had no way of contacting this man and wanted to turn the property over to the police, saying he didn't want to associate with "any of those people anymore." The officer booked them into property at the police department.
