Fittingly, West Pierce Fire & Rescue To Dedicate 9/11 Reflection Park September 11

The ceremony will take place 6 p.m., Tuesday at the department's headquarters in University Place. The park's centerpiece is a piece of steel from the World Trade Center for which firefighters traveled to New York.

On Tuesday, as the nation remembers the 9/11 attacks, West Pierce Fire & Rescue will commemorate the event by memorializing

The department issued the following press release this morning, hoping the community will join the ceremony:

Last September, West Pierce Fire & Rescue was awarded a piece of steel from the World Trade Center.  To properly display, honor and share this meaningful artifact with our community, West Pierce Fire & Rescue employees, community members and local businesses have worked together to build a reflection park, located in front of our headquarters station at 3631 Drexler Drive West in University Place. The dedication for this park will take place on September 11th at 6:00 pm.

As part of the ceremony, an FDNY firefighter who responded to the attacks on September 11th will be on hand to share his thoughts and memories.  Don’t miss this opportunity to see the park up close and learn about September 11th from someone who was there that day.

The cost for the 9/11 Reflection Park, was more than $250,000. No tax money was spent creating the park.  Citizens, businesses and local artisans, along with  employees of West Pierce Fire & Rescue donated their money, personal time and their incredible talents to complete the project.
