Fire Destroys University Place Home Wednesday

No injuries were reported. One of the home's occupants heard an explosion and called authorities.

A fire destroyed a home in University Place on Wedesday.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue crew were dispated to the home in the 5400 bock of 87th Avenue Court West shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to spokeswoman Hallie McCurdy.

Crews arrived about five minutes later to find the house fully engulfed in fire, she said. The home's two occupants escaped, and no injuries were reported.

One of those occupants heard an explosion and called authorities, McCurdy said.

In all, the department sent five engines and 30 people to the fire, which was declared under control about 11:30 a.m.
