Fill The Engine, Help Caring For Kids

From Aug. 22 to Aug. 26, West Pierce Fire & Rescue will conduct a food and toiletries drive to help the local nonprofit. It will also hold an event Aug. 24 in which people can donate, as well as meet firefighters and tour an engine.

It’s back-to-school season, and is hosting a food and toiletries drive to help families in need.

From Aug. 22 to Aug. 66, the fire department that serves University Place and Lakewood will offer drop-off stations at three locations. West Pierce will also host “Fill the Fire Engine,” an event in which firefighters will accept donations and give tours of the engine.

The effort benefits Caring for Kids, a nonprofit group that helps children in the , Clover Park and Steilacoom School Districts. It is looking for donations of items such as nonperishable foods, fruit juice, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, toothbrushes toothpaste and deodorant.

Residents can drop items at these locations during collection week Aug. 22 to Aug. 26:

-West Pierce Station 31, 3631 Drexler Dr. W., Suite B, University Place

The “Fill the Fire Engine” event takes place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Lakewood Towne Center near Safeway.
