Curtis High Student Crashes BMW Into Tree

17-year-old driving at a high rate of speed had to be extricated from his vehicle.

A Curtis High student wound up with severe injuries late Friday night when the BMW he was driving crashed into a tree in University Place.

According to the News Tribune, the 17-year-old was taken to Tacoma General after his 2004 vehicle struck a tree in the 9200 block of Cirque Drive West.

The Tribune quotes Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer as saying the young man had been “traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.”

The driver remained in critical condition late Saturday.
