Don’t Hang Up

Patch blogger shares her experience with business owners hanging up on her calls. Here's a tip, she says, don't do it, especially in Pierce County.

Making a phone call on behalf of one of my clients recently, I reached a local business owner who was not happy that I had called.

Being professional I gave the business owner my name right away and explained which client I was calling for. Before I could say much more the business owner I was calling told me to never call again and hung up on me.

Needless to say – my client was not happy when I shared this. Yes, this has happened to me before and I am a big girl however; it is the rudeness of this type of behavior that amazes me. I think business people forget even though the population of Pierce County is in the 700,000 mark – it still has a small town feel.  In our business community many of us know each other – or can be quickly connected to each other through a family member or a business associate.

Being kind and courteous to each and every caller is important. Yes, we all are busy – who isn’t? Taking the time to listen to the caller, stating “no thank you” (if you are not interested) and leaving the conversation in a positive way is always best practice in business. Besides, you never know who is on the other end of the phone line – they could be your next customer.
