Tree topping causes large bird habitats to lose their nests and perches

Patch blogger Pamele Sherman blogs that "pointless" tree topping destroys bird nests and eagle perches in West University Place.

I live in UP on the west side near the water, and I am mortified at a homeowner who topped off their trees with no concern for the wildlife.

My deck looks out over the water, and there is one other street below where they are located. Bald eagles and other large birds have nested and perched in those trees for years. I have enjoyed watching beautiful eagles perched on top of these trees watching for prey, and I loved seeing these majestic birds and others living their lives.

I don't believe that these trees were in danger of breaking limbs, as they were very sparse, so safety couldn't have been an issue. Note the pictures of the full trees with nests before the tree topping, and the second one since.
