DTNW's SPRING SPARKLE AND BEAUTY WILL ENERGIZE AND ENCHANT

Springs Youthful Energy Leaps and Soars Even on Rainy Days at Dance Theatre Northwest with TWO FREE Performances in community area venues.

An elegant gesture, a flying leap, sheer physical energy and beauty accompanied by enthusiastic applause from the captivated audience as we open our performances always makes my heart soar and I am not alone.

Ballerina, Katie Neumann, is just one of the dancers who loves our community concerts. “Performing for the kids is always such a fun and uplifting experience. They get so excited about the dancing and with all their 'oohs' and 'ahs' you can’t help but smile and have a good time. I love sharing our dances with them.” Lithe, nimble, and enchanting, Katie will be among the many dancers enchanting our spectators this weekend.

Willowy and intense, another talented dancer, Allison Zakharov states, “I am so excited to perform for my community and to share our talents. I know this will be a strong season for DTNW.”

The programs differ somewhat as do the casts. At Christensen we will present professional and student youth performers and at Narrows Glen we will add previews of new works as well as student and adult performers of all ages. There is a methodology involved in combining the youth and the select group of adult and student dancers. In essence three generations will perform for a fourth.

"If wrinkles must be written upon our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should not grow old." James A. Garfield

Critical but accepting and appreciative our seasoned and somewhat sophisticated Narrows Glen audience relishes in new delights. Their temperaments are ideal for our previews.

“Dance Theatre Northwest performances are always events that we look forward to here at Narrows Glen. Many of our residents have enjoyed watching the dancers through the years as they grow in their talent. The song choices and choreography are never the same as the time before and never lack in flare. The dance group is always thinking of fresh new ways to entertain, and amaze us. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us this time! Thanks!” Amber Buckham, Sales Director, Narrows Glen

“You Make Me Feel So Young” is a love song but the fun and delightful dizziness we get from sharing our performances is akin to the highs of love. Yes, romantic and healing. We smile, we laugh, tears may come to our eyes from the sparkle and beauty, the joyful faces and it takes us to an almost hypnotic place of fantasy.

“Dance Theatre Northwest is a magical place to dance whether you are forty three or thirteen. There is truly something inspiring for everyone—precisely why I drive 40+ minutes every time I come to take a class. It’s absolutely worth it…and I tell everyone I know, DTNW is simply the best!” Debbie Knowlen-Campbell. Debbie will be among the 30 or so performers featured in our new Beethoven “Symphonic Collections” piece.

Since childhood, I have adored the music of Ludwig Von Beethoven. I can still remember the joy and serenity that came with learning to play then mastering his “Moonlight Sonata” for one of my early piano recitals. Even under the rigid guidance of a teacher whose frequent mutterings of disapproval over the improper raising of any small finger, I found that nothing could dissuade me from the love I felt for the music by this composer whose black and white facial sketch was printed at the top of the page.

Famous for his symphonic collections, Beethoven, who helped usher Western music into the romantic from the classical era, was said to have been inspired by Mozart. And, clearly the “Mozart effect” was in full force because he remains one of the most famous and influential of all composers.

DTNW crosses over in being inspired and inspiring. Even as we inspire our spirits are raised.  “I am so excited to have the luxury of being in this beautifully choreographed piece of dance! I have grown up listening to great composers like Beethoven and am very excited to dance to one of my favorites! I hope everyone has as much fun watching the piece as I have dancing it!” says advanced junior company member Martha Roidl-Ward.

The themes of collections, mosaics, and the fiery art of glass blowing are also being restated in two new contemporary shorts. These preview are inspired by exhibits and activities at the Tacoma Museum of Glass whose staff and guest artists have brilliantly succeeded in creating something for every viewer. The MOG works really complement the natural beauty of our youth and athleticism with sizzling movements, costumes and formations pleasing but nontraditional.

Two different programs for two different audiences and venues, both are FREE, handicapped accessible and open to the public. They will take place this weekend at:
