Dance Theatre Northwest Offers FREE Dance Performances in March & April 2013

Dance Theatre Northwest continues community outreach through FREE and open to the public "Arts Are Education" Performances in March & April 2013.

Dance Theatre Northwest will offer several performances in March and April 2013 that are FREE, handicapped accessible and open to the public. Several of the programs fall into the Arts Are Education in-school dance arts performance and arts education lectures. All performances feature excerpts from Swan Lake.

The educational outreach performances/assemblies feature Dance Theatre Northwest professional company members Katie Neumann and Chhay Mam and DTNW guests and students in both historically significant classical and contemporary works.

Each program is designed to educate the students and audience members about
performing arts through an arts education experience and to help them learn
about specific aspects of dance, its history, terminology, disciplines, benefits and the potential careers dance offers. Dance Theatre Northwest’s professional artists and student performers intend to inspire audience members to develop or further their interest in the arts.

DTNW has served the community for more than 26 years. In the past students and staff who have had the opportunity to view a live dance performance and been able to interact with DTNW artists have been awestruck. For many, it was their first such experience.

Arts Education budgets have been cut in most of our area schools and this type of
quality educational programming is intended to help keep the arts alive in our
schools and in the hearts and minds of our youth. DTNW estimates that
approximately 3500 community area audience members will be impacted by these services.

As a member of “Americans For The Arts”  I heartily agree with their statement on “WHY THE ARTS MATTER: Simply put, the arts are essential to the proper functioning of our society. The arts continue to demonstrate their ability to provide categorical evidence of their impact on social issues that concern virtually every facet of American society. The arts are especially important for our children. Students with an arts rich education:

  • Have better grade point averages
  • Score better on standardized tests in reading and math
  • Have lower dropout rates”
