Army Releases More Information On Two JBLM Stryker Soldiers Who Died In Afghanistan

Spc. Trevor A. Pinnick, of Lawrenceville, Ill., died last Tuesday, near Panjwa 'I, Kandahar, Afghanistan. Sgt. Joseph M. Lilly, of Flint, MI, died last Thursday, in a medical treatment facility at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan.

(This comes from Joint Base Lewis-McChord regarding two of its soldiers who died in Afghanistan)

According to the Dept. of Defense, Spc. , of Lawrenceville, IL, died June 12, near Panjwa ‘I, Kandahar, Afghanistan, and Sgt. of Flint, MI., died June 14, in a medical treatment facility at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan of wounds sustained when they were attacked by an enemy improvised explosive device.

They were assigned to the 18th Engineer Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Sgt. Joseph M. Lilly

According to unit records, Sgt. Lilly entered the Army in July 2005 and reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., for Initial Army Training, and Advanced Individual Training in Military Occupational Specialty 12B (Combat Engineer). Upon completion of AIT he was stationed at Camp Casey, Korea (2005 – 2006). He returned Fort Leonard Wood and was stationed there through 2008. He arrived at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in March 2009 and was assigned to the 18th Engineer Company, 3rd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.  He deployed to Iraq from August 2009 through July 2010. He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in April. This was his second deployment.

Sgt. Lilly’s civilian and military education includes a high school diploma (2005) and Military Occupational Specialty 12B: Combat Engineer (2005), Route Reconnaissance and Clearance – SAPPER (2011).

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (two awards), Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal (two awards), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (two awards), Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver – Wheeled Vehicles, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver – Tracked Vehicles.

Upon completion of AIT he was assigned to the 18th Engineer Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.  He deployed with this unit to Afghanistan in April. This was his first deployment.

Spc. Pinnick’s civilian and military education includes a high school diploma (2010) and Military Occupational Specialty 12B: Combat Engineer (2010).

His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.
