Another Stryker Soldier From JBLM Dies in Afghanistan

Pfc. Cale C. Miller was from Overland Park, KS and was part of the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

According to the Dept. of Defense, Pfc. Cale C. Miller, 23, of Overland Park, Kan., died May 24 near Maiwand, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.

According to unit records, Pfc. Miller entered the Army in February 2011. He attended Initial Army training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Benning, Ga. His AIT training was for MOS 11B (Infantryman).

He was assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in June 2011, and upon arrival Pfc. Miller was assigned to 4-23 Infantry, 2nd  Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. The unit deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in April. This was Pfc. Miller’s first deployment.

Pfc Miller’s civilian and military education includes a high school diploma (2007), and MOS 11B (Infantryman).

His awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
