Managed Growth Or Chaos?

The recent turmoil in the housing market has taken a toll in a variety of ways, but has it changed how we want to live?

We all want a place to call home. Have neighbourhoods changed us, or do we still feel we can change our neighbourhood? What is a functioning city, a productive business, a healthful environment? Can we afford the amenities for the place we call home?

It seems certain there will be growth, but will it be successful in our minds? Do we want a more walkable community with a mix of houses and businesses within an easy walk? Or, do we want improvements in roads and transit, so we can live where there is space, but still get to work on time?

Smart Growth is a concept embraced by many communities, usually embodying many  options, with fair and reasonable sharing of costs. There is a wide range of housing opportunity, with good schools, public safety, ample park and open space and wide support for business. People have a respect for each other and the environment. People give freely of their time and talent to help others. There is quiet enjoyment!
